Therapy Shmerapy acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the traditional custodians of the land on which we are privileged to live on. We pay our deepest respects and gratitude to Elders past, present, and emerging. We value Indigenous ways of knowing and healing as meaningful alternatives to Western mental health paradigms that encompass cultural, social, and environmental factors. We recognise that some therapeutic approaches have been stolen from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, such as Cultural Storytelling being repackaged as Narrative Therapy, a space now being reclaimed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander practitioners. Similarly, we honour Dadirri as a traditional practice of deep listening that deserves distinct recognition rather than being overshadowed by Western mindfulness.

We would also specifically like to honour Brotherboys and Sistergirls, whose very existence sheds light on the impact of colonialism on gender. We also acknowledge and appreciate their remarkable contributions to Rainbow Mob, trans, gender-diverse people, and the wider LGBTQIASB+ community. We are dedicated not only to ongoing cultural awareness, but ensuring cultural safety as best as we can for Rainbow Mob in our day-to-day lives.

We are committed to ongoing reparations for our communities through caring for the land and nature around us, contributing to mutual aid fundraisers, regularly paying the rent, and showing up as allies to advocate for the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Sovereignty was never ceded.

It always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.

We are not a crisis service. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 000.
